Sexual Assault Awareness Month Begins April 1

The Office of Health Promotion, in collaboration with numerous student groups, offices and departments, presents Sexual Assault Awareness Month throughout April.  The month aims to bring a number of educational, empowering and engaging programs and events to promote the importance of raising awareness about, and supporting those impacted by, sexual and relationship violence.

Throughout the entire month, the Hall of Languages and Hendricks Chapel will be lit in teal, the month’s official color, and students, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear teal ribbons, available for free at the Office of Health Promotion (111 Waverly, Suite 006), to demonstrate their support.

WISE Symposium to Inspire and Empower Women Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders

Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (WISE) is bringing powerhouse guest speakers to the 15th annual WISE Symposium on Tuesday, April 25, to inspire an anticipated audience of hundreds at SKY Armory in Syracuse. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and features a full day of speakers and opportunities for networking. Women business leaders share insights, lessons and best practices that empower others to follow in their footsteps, or carve a path of their own. The WISE Symposium is a collaboration of the Whitman School, The Events Company and SKY Armory.

University Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, within the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience, is hosting a series of events in April in collaboration with students, faculty and staff across campus.

The month-long celebration begins on April 1, with the kickoff event on Thursday, April 6, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Room 500 in the Hall of Languages. Attendees will enjoy food; meet and mingle with students, faculty and staff; learn about the month’s events; and view the unveiling of this year’s Anti-Asian Hate Crime Exhibit.

Disability Student Union and Disability Cultural Center Bring Live Concert to ‘Cripping’ the Comic Con

The fifth annual “Cripping” the Comic Con will take place on Saturday, April 22, from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Schine Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.

The full-day international summit focuses on the theme of “Our Own Icons!” and aims to engage participants in reflective discussions about the representations of disability, both implicit and explicit, in mainstream popular cultures. The schedule features a plenary panel of comic artists and thinkers who are disability rights activists; workshops on cosplay, comics and collaborative design; an inclusive photo booth; art exhibits; and much more. Film Screening of ‘Hate Spaces: the Politics of Intolerance on Campus’ on Thursday

A film screening of “Hate Spaces: the Politics of Intolerance on Campus” will take place at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in 060 Eggers Hall.

The film will be introduced by Asaf Romirowsky, executive director of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East. “Hate Spaces” includes commentary and analysis from distinguished writers and academics, such as professors Alan Dershowitz of Harvard, William Jacobson of Cornell and Richard Landes of Boston University, along with journalists Bret Stephens of the Wall Street Journal, and Caroline Glick of The Jerusalem Post.

A post-screening conversation will be moderated by Miriam Elman, associate professor of political science in the Maxwell School and research director with the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration.

The event is sponsored by the Jewish Federation of CNY, Syracuse University Hillel and the Jewish Studies Program.
