University Hosts Spring ‘It’s On Us’ Week of Action

The It’s On Us student team, Peer Educators Encouraging Healthy Relationships and Sexuality (PEEHRS), student organizations, University offices and the Office of Health Promotion are hosting the spring “It’s On Us” Week of Action from Monday, April 3, through Friday, April 7.  The “It’s On Us” national campaign, developed in 2014 by the Center for American Progress and the White House, encourages every community member to take part in ending sexual assault. First SU Women’s Empowerment Week to Take Place April 3-7

The first Syracuse University Women’s Empowerment Week will take place April 3-7, 2017 in partnership with the Women’s Leadership Initiative. Each day of the week will focus on a different industry or field, specifically those that tend to be male dominated, featuring various female guest speakers. Focus areas include business; the music industry; sports; politics and law; and technology. Some speakers are alumni of Syracuse University. Read more at SU News.

University Lectures Hosts Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist Sonia Nazario

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, author and activist Sonia Nazario closes out the 2016-17 University Lectures series at Syracuse University on Wednesday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.

Her presentation is free and open to the public. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) will be available. Nazario’s visit is co-sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and Latino-Latin American Studies. Learn more at SU News.

Common and Diverse Ground Interfaith Dinner Dialogue Series Continues April 4

The University’s spring 2017 Interfaith Dialogue Dinner Series, Common and Diverse Ground: Raising Consciousnesses by Acknowledging the “Hidden” Things that Divide Us, continues Tuesday, April 4, with “Remembering/Honoring/Responding to Pulse, Orlando.”

The dialogue, which is in solidarity with the LGBT Resource Center and Trans Week of Liberation, will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the Noble Room of Hendricks Chapel.

The two-hour gathering will include a shared meal, facilitated dialogue and a time of mindful meditation. It will be co-facilitated by chaplains, staff and students.

This series is cosponsored by Hendricks Chapel and the Disability Cultural Center, and is made possible through the Co-Curricular Departmental Initiatives program within the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience.

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and inclusive food will be provided.

Brown, Pati Named Class of 2018 Senior Class Marshals

Gerald Brown and Anjana “Angie” Pati were named senior class marshals for the Class of 2018 by the Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience, which oversees the selection process. University Participates in Tri-State Diversity Council’s College Diversity Summit

On Saturday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Onondaga Community College, college students from the surrounding area will come together for the Tri-State Diversity Council’s Upstate New York College Diversity Summit. The summit, “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders,” focuses on developing student leadership and enhancing cultural competencies. Environmentalist and Political Activist Winona LaDuke Speaking Wednesday for Democratizing Knowledge Project

The Democratizing Knowledge (DK) Project in the College of Arts and Sciences is presenting “An Evening with Winona LaDuke” on Wednesday, March 29, at 5 p.m. in Shemin Auditorium. A leading environmentalist and political activist, LaDuke is revered for her work with food sovereignty, renewable energy, sustainable development and indigenous paradigms. Read more at SU News.
