IVMF’s Newest Initiatives Empower, Train, Support Veteran Entrepreneurs

Today the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) announced three special opportunities for veterans, military spouses and veteran-owned businesses. The programs include convening Fortune 500 leaders to discuss supplier opportunities during National Veterans Small Business Week and two innovative business competitions: the VetSmallBiz Growth Challenge and the Virtual Elevator Pitch Competition. NASCAR Intern Helps Promote Fan Experience, Leads to More Opportunity

Peri Karslioglu ’16 was looking for a senior capstone project when she came across a listing for the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program. She never imagined where it would eventually take her. Karslioglu, of Fairfax Station, Virginia, was one of 26 students selected nationwide to participate in the summer program and quickly learned all about America’s favorite spectator sport. The opportunity also led more recently to a permanent position with the organization as a marketing coordinator. Read more at SU News.

CFAC Hosts Artist Talk with James Ransome Oct. 26

The Community Folk Art Center (CFAC) welcomes James Ransome for an artist talk Wednesday, Oct. 26, after a month of showcasing his work in its exhibition: “Two Sides of James Ransome: Known and Unknown.” Ransome will give a presentation, followed by a question and answer session from 7 to 9 p.m. at 805 E. S.P. Raj Named Interim Dean of the Martin J. Whitman School of Management

A longtime leader and widely respected scholar in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management has been selected to serve as interim dean. Vice Chancellor and Provost Michele G. Wheatly today announced that S.P. Raj, Distinguished Professor of Marketing and chair of the Department of Marketing, will serve as interim dean, effective immediately. Today’s announcement follows more than a month of conversations between Provost Wheatly, Vice Chancellor and Acting Dean J. Michael Haynie, students, faculty, staff and members of the Whitman School Advisory Council.
