Rogers, Vaughn Crowned Homecoming Royalty

On Saturday, Sept. 17, Miracle Rogers, a senior in the School of Education, and Bilal Vaughn, a senior in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, were crowned 2016 Homecoming Queen and King, respectively.  The longstanding tradition recognizes some of the University’s most spirited seniors. As part of the Homecoming Court process, candidates submit applications, participate in interviews with the Homecoming Court Selection Committee, and complete an SU traditions quiz.  Once the Homecoming Court is selected, a University-wide vote determines the King and Queen. Read more about Rogers and Vaughn at SU News.

University Council on Diversity and Inclusion Members Announced

New University-wide council among 18 short-term recommendations made by the Chancellor’s Workgroup on Diversity and Inclusion. At the recommendation of the Chancellor’s Workgroup on Diversity and Inclusion, Chancellor Kent Syverud today announced the creation of a new University-wide Council on Diversity and Inclusion. Establishing the council was one of 18 short-term recommendations made by the workgroup last spring. “I remain grateful to the members of the workgroup for their hard work on behalf of the University. We are a better Syracuse today because of their efforts,” says Chancellor Syverud. “I look forward to collaborating with the new council to further build on the workgroup’s great work as we collectively seek to create a more diverse and inclusive campus community.” Read more at SU News.

Q&A with New College of Law Dean Craig M. Boise

College of Law Dean Craig M. Boise wants to ensure that each student’s experience at the college is a positive one and he’s already begun to implement that initiative.

Since beginning his tenure this summer, Boise has appointed a new assistant dean of students to help make sure the college is responsive to each student’s needs. He’s also dedicated to being visible and interacting with students whenever possible, which recently included working with students on a service project.  Read the full story at SU News.

J.R. Martinez Named as Keynote Speaker at 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration committee is proud to announce the speaker for this year’s event. Best-selling author, actor, U.S. Army veteran and motivational speaker J.R. Martinez will provide the keynote address at the yearly celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. King. This is the 32nd year for the event at Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome. It’s the largest of its kind, and will take place on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017.  Read more at SU News.

Q&A: LGBT Resource Center Director Tiffany Gray

After working for a year as the interim director of the University’s LGBT Resource Center, Tiffany Gray was recently named as the center’s permanent director. This cause for celebration coincides with the center’s 15th anniversary, which is being celebrated Monday, Sept. 26, from 5-7 p.m. in the Comstock Room at the University Sheraton.
