Himika Bhattacharya on “Love is love, how can it be divided?”: Women narrating joint/marriage, caste, and tribe in Lahaul, India.

In this talk, Bhattacharya will trace the marriage practice of “joint” in Lahaul, India. By juxtaposing oral histories of women in joint marriages with interviews conducted with government officers in the region, she will discuss the ways in which official discourses on marriage, love and sexuality serve as proxy for caste.
